Things that make you go ooo

While walking the dogs tonight several different memories were triggered by the crisp air with the warm breeze. Maybe it is so endearing because it reminds me of when Richard and I first fell in love. Maybe it's because it is the first hint of fall which is the best season ever in my book. The apple picking, pumpkin carving, and of course Halloween!

I also love the sound of crickets on these slightly chilly nights. Here in the city there are not nearly the huge choirs of crickets found in the fields and woods behind my house growing up. It still makes me smile.

How to make Recycle Leis

First crochet a necklace using this pattern from FoxesLane.

Next make flowers from water bottle using this pattern I found on Instructables. I used spray paint instead of using a brush and I think they turned out really well. Stop before adding the thumb tacks in the pattern. I also turned them opposite of the pattern because I thought the cut side could be itchy.

Note the small water bottles are easier to use than 20oz soda bottles but I think they look good together.

Next take bottle caps and using a penny nail punch 2 holes in both the flower and the bottle caps. Then spray paint the bottle caps yellow.

Attatch to the crocheted necklace with fishing line. Thread up through the flower and bottle cap and down the other side and I used the portion if the rik rak that has a chain so it has a slight hole.

I had the kids put together their leis at my very first jewelry show ad month ago. We had about 10 kids ranging in ages from 6-17, boys and girls putting together their own leis. I had planned on 6 so they only got 2-3 flowers each this time. Next time I will make extras!

Furry Friend Friday

This weeks furry friend Friday goes to my good friend Weebles. He was rescued from a shelter in southern virginia. The Homeless Animal Rescue Team goes down before the euthanize day at shelters in southern Virginia to adopt all that they can. Often they are young dogs. In walks this little black fuzz ball who was covered in mats from head to tail. He was listed as a girl actually. After several hours of shaving and bathing, it was time for his ear cleaning. I had been with other animals but was available so I volunteered. After cleaning his ears he curled up in my lap before going back in his cage. That is where he got me. We did notice his gait was not correct. He appeared to have neurologic damage. Although we had just moved into a townhouse that allowed pets we were not looking for another dog just yet. The winning talking point was because of they way he walks we could call him Weebles- he wobbles but doesn't fall down.

He is dog aggressive and food aggressive (only around human food) but he isn't he cute? He is obsessed wi his tennis ball and likes to cuddle. And it is kinda sad that he's so scared of thunder. But I am so grateful I was working the night that HART brought him into Caring Hands.

Rest in Peace Kodi

Normally Sundays I do a top 3 picks of the week from Etsy. That will have to wait today. I all ready had a Furry Friend Friday about my canine friend Kodi several weeks ago but he passed away yesterday. So once again I'd like to reminisce about the good times I had with him.

He was always a very energetic boston terrier. Always wanting to play and loved attention. At the house I grew up in he was not allowed on the carpet but when friends were over he just could not stand having people not with him. So he would start at the edge of the carpet and slink very low until eventually just his back toes were touching the wood floor. And despite the no carpet rule, I believe my parents let him follow the sun in there when no one was home because he loved to nap in the sun. Kodi and my dad had a very special relationship. I swear they would have conversations back and forth when my dad would tell him to do something he would whine back at him until Kodi caved and listened to my dad. He adjusted well to living in the country when my parents moved. He would hunt frogs and had a route that he would run every morning. He also knew all of the trails and would be able to keep up with you on a 4 wheeler or other vehicle for miles and miles. Taking detours if he needed to chase a squirl. You also had to be careful when fishing as he had been known to jump and steal the fish off the line as you brought it in. He was also fearless. When my dad had shot a beaver but it was still swimming he went out to bring it back. Thankfully his swimming skills were better than we had thought because the beaver did not dive too low with him. Although I don't know if he ever brought the beaver back. All in all I think he had a great life as a dog. He was always loving and excited to see people. Although, since becoming a farm dog he never did smell quite the same. I love you Kodi and you will be missed greatly.

Furry Friend Friday

This week's winner is Maggie Moo. This cute kitty is shy but once she comes out of her shell demands attention any time you pass by. She prefers to stay on counters, cat trees, and tables to avoid the evil Weebles Monster (aka dog). I think she could really do some damage on him and then he'd leave her alone but she prefers to run which makes for a great chase. Maggie is the only cat so far not on any type of prescription, diet or medication, in the house. Lets keep it that way Mags!!!
She has a hard time holding still because she really wants love!

Work in Progress Wednesday

I have most recently been experimenting with crochet and plastic bags. First I make yarn by cutting the bag's bottom off. Then I cut the bag into think circles and attach the loops together forming my "yarn".  I was thinking of a change purse for this granny square. Working on a clasp idea. Also planning on taking three layers of square bag and ironing it together and then sewing it to form the liner. I was also thinking of making sturdier grocery sacs that are lined so they are pretty leak proof and reusable but collapsable.

What else can I make from plastic bags?

Tuesday Surprise

I had a simple day planned. Get up, have breakfast, shower, go to work and drive vehicle to the Ford dealership and meet Richard for lunch. I was interrupted just when I got out of the shower. I find Weebles munchin away on Hot Shots Ant Bait.

No worries because it's well within the safe range. However, I wasn't positive of this until well after I was supposed to leave so 20ml of peroxide and 20 minutes later he vomited his breakfast. (seemed like it took forever) and all was well. Now I guess he didn't really have to vomit  but I wasn't positive so better safe than sorry. Now after a couple hours he's had a snack and won't remember that the reason he had to be sick was because he ate something he shouldn't. It's a good thing he's really cute. :)

Furry Friend Fridays

This week is dedicated to my dog Kodi. Kodi came along as a house pet when I was 17 but has since been converted to a farm dog. He does not eat many people's lunch out of their truck these days but he is certainly a big part of my parent's house. He's even getting better letting me trim his nails.
